Other key players in the travel industry have reported a similar trend this earnings season. Americans, especially lower-income consumers, have pulled back spending at retailers as goods inflation outpaces wage growth. They’ve even become frugal with some experience-based spending like dining out, opting instead to eat at home. “We saw a healthy but more normalized market environment for travel globally,” CEO Peter Kern told analysts on May 2.

The rate of EV sales has been slowing for about a year, major automakers have pulled back on their previously lofty EV goals, and even electric car-giant Tesla is faltering. Demand for electric vehicles hasn't dried up completelyDemand for expensive EVs has softened significantly, but an opening exists in the affordable market. A new generation of electric car shoppers are looking for different options than their early-adopting counterparts. Essentially every major automotive company at this point has built its future around selling more electric vehicles. The real divide here is not between hybrids and EVs, but between legacy car companies and EV-only startups.

CNN —It feels weird to begin a complimentary piece about Anne Hathaway by saying I didn’t especially enjoy her latest movie, but here goes. Yet, as she recently explained to the New York Times, she’s spent far too much of her life trying to make other people happy. Even now, a Google search for “hate Anne Hathaway” produces more than five million hits. The movie is set years after that betrayal, and Solène, like Hathaway, has outgrown her habit of people pleasing. Hathaway is so luminously beautiful in “The Idea of You” that, for me at least, it undermines the entire film.

“We were very close, but Netanyahu’s narrow-mindedness aborted an agreement,” Mousa Abu Marzouk, a senior Hamas official, said in a phone interview. The Israeli official said that Israel had sought a written response to its latest proposal from Hamas before dispatching a delegation, but that the group never conveyed one. Mr. Abu Marzouk was the only one of the officials who spoke about the talks to allow the use of his name. Hamas, Mr. Abu Marzouk said, thought that Mr. Netanyahu wanted an agreement that would permit Israel to invade Rafah after its hostages are released. A report in Al-Qahera News, an Egyptian state-owned television channel, said that a Hamas delegation would return to Cairo on Tuesday, but the senior Hamas official said that the group hadn’t made a decision yet.

A section of Interstate 95 in Connecticut reopened on Sunday morning after a fiery accident last week damaged an overpass and shut down the highway, a major artery along the East Coast. In the accident, fuel from a fuel tanker carrying thousands of gallons of gasoline ignited the Fairfield Avenue Bridge in Norwalk, Conn., which stretched over the highway. Workers spent 80 hours repairing the road and demolishing the damaged bridge said Ned Lamont, the governor of Connecticut, in a statement on Sunday. There were no serious injuries in the crash, but the damage caused by the intense heat from the burning fuel was so significant that Governor Lamont declared a state of emergency. Repairing the roadway “is vital to the security, well-being and health of the residents of Connecticut, as well as the residents of the states along the Eastern Seaboard,” he wrote.

The latest round of negotiations between Israel and Hamas hit an impasse on Sunday as mediators struggled to bridge remaining gaps and a Hamas delegation departed the talks in Cairo, according to two senior Hamas officials and two other officials familiar with the talks. An Israeli official also confirmed the negotiations had stalled and described them as being in “crisis.”For months, the negotiations aimed at achieving a cease-fire and a release of hostages have made little progress, but signs the two sides were coming closer to an agreement appeared over the last week. Israel backed off some of its long-held demands and a top Hamas official said the group was studying the latest Israeli offer with a “positive spirit.”But the setback over the weekend meant Palestinians living in miserable conditions in Gaza would not experience an imminent reprieve and the families of hostages held by militants would have to wait longer for the freedom of their loved ones. The main obstacle in the talks was the duration of a cease-fire, with Hamas demanding it be permanent and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel expressing openness to only a temporary halt in the fighting.

A key policy designed to create affordable housing for low-income people has long been scrutinized for being generally ineffective. So a policy designed to create more affordable housing can actually result in fewer homes and higher housing costs. "His skill is investing, but his secret is time," Morgan Housel wrote in the bestselling business book, "The Psychology of Money." To that point, 99% of Buffett's net worth was accumulated after he was 65 years old, Housel said during a 2022 interview with CNBC. That's up substantially from the $84.5 billion net worth Buffett had at the time Housel's book was published in 2020. Most of that wealth came in Buffett's later years, Housel wrote, with $84.2 billion after he turned 50 and $81.5 billion after he turned 65. "The trick is to have a very long hill, which means starting very young or living … to be very old," Buffett said.
